The Cowboy’s Curvy Star Bonus Scene

Star

It’s another warm summer night in Lucky River. Zane and I decided to take our two sons and daughter to the Fairy Flower Garden after we took the kids to the town museum.

“I think I overate.” Zane pats his stomach as the kids run ahead of us and exclaim over one of the themes decorated with fairies in space.

“What do you mean you overate? You didn’t finish your meal and you skipped dessert.” I glance at my husband. After eleven years together, he’s still as fit as ever. Waking up to his handsome face never fails to make me weak with need.

Zane flexes his arms. “I have to keep in shape to be able to have my way with you.”

“Honey!” I glance meaningfully toward the kids.

“They can’t hear us. They’re too enthralled with this place.”

I think back to a certain night years ago when Zane dragged me behind the bushes and had his way with me. I bite back a moan at the memory and nudge him. “I have a favorite spot here. A particular tree.”

Up against it, with him behind me…I swallow, my body heating at the recalled image of the two of us.

Zane grins. “Me too. But I also have a favorite barn loft. A favorite truck bed. A favorite washing machine. A favorite tent.”

“I told you. I have an active imagination.”

He slips his arm around my waist, pulling me against his side. “I’m not complaining. I like your imagination.”

“Some of the settings I’ve encouraged us to try—”

“Encouraged? You mean dragged me there?” Zane crosses his arms over his body. “You pounced on me.”

I laugh and swat at him. “Well, if you don’t like it, we can stop. I promise I’ll never pounce on you.”

Instantly, his demeanor changes.

“No, no, Sugar. I was joking.”

“I know that. I was too.”

He glances around to make sure no one is near, then smacks me lightly on the rear. “Behave yourself or I’ll act out a scene like in one of the shifter books you read. I’ll turn into an animal.”

“You mean you’ll turn feral on me?”

Our eyes lock, both of us lost in that night when I’d asked him to be feral with me. And he had. Against the tree.

His throat works as he swallows. “Careful, babe. I’ll uncage the beast again.”

“You don’t scare me.” I poke a finger in the center of his chest, enjoying the solidness of the muscles there.

“Keep it up, and I’ll drop the kids off at Callan’s house and show you what I mean.”

I roll my eyes, enjoying teasing him. “Sure thing.”

“Star, I swear…” He takes out his phone. “Hey. Where are you? In town? Can you come by the Fairy Garden and get the kids for me? Alright. Thanks.”

“What did you just do?”

“Callan and Madison just finished shopping in town. They’ll pick up the kids and let them stay the night.”

“Is that right?”

“That’s right. Then we’ll be alone together and you’re mine all night long.”

I shake my head. “I don’t know, honey. It’s been a while since you pulled an all-nighter. You’ve gotten older, so I understand if you’re all talk and no—”

Zane pulls me against him and kisses me breathless. When he lifts his head, his eyes are filled with need. “Wait and see.”

He and I normally have a date night once a week, so we do get time alone to be a couple, but all the kids are rarely gone overnight.

After Callan and Madison pick up the kids, Zane leads the way to the passenger side of the truck and pulls me back against him.

“Watch those hands, cowboy.”

“Oh, I plan to. I’m going to watch them worship my wife for hours.”

Heat unfurls in my stomach as I get in the truck.

We head toward the ranch that was once my grandfather’s. It’s a place we’ve turned into a happy home with precious memories.

“Have I told you how beautiful you are and how much I love you?” Zane says as he reaches across the seat to take my hand in his.

“Only every day,” I say, my heart clenching at the beauty of our marriage. It’s beautiful because I’m with him. Zane is the kind of man whose word is true. A man who is humble enough to apologize when he’s wrong when we don’t see eye to eye.

A man not afraid to love without constraint. He’s definitely my Prince Charming. My forever man.

I lower my window to let in the night air, then run my fingers down his thigh. “I’m thinking you need to drive to the waterfall.”

He glances at me, intrigued. “The Central Trail Falls?”

I nod. “It’s deserted at night. It would be just you and me and the night sky.” I smile wickedly. “You can add it to your list of favorite spots.”

Zane spins the truck around to head that direction. “There’s plenty of room on my list.”

I laugh, then bite my lip.

“You know that drives me crazy. What have I told you about doing that?” he growls and taps his finger against my lip.

“Is that a threat?” I ask, nuzzling the side of his neck.

“No, baby, it’s a promise.”

And he delivered. All night long until the sun rose, and I slept securely in my husband’s arms. Secure in his love for me and our little family.
